North East couple who won £115m on EuroMillions gave away HALF of fortune to others

A couple who scooped almost £115m on the EuroMillions two years ago have given away more than half their fortune to help other people.

Frances and Patrick Connolly, who lived in Hartlepool for 25 years and still live in the North East, won the massive jackpot on January 1, 2019 - making them the UK's fourth biggest lottery winners.

Just hours after winning, Frances wrote a list of 50 names of friends and family who they wanted to help and dished out cash to them.

They went on to set up two charities, one in Hartlepool and one in Northern Ireland, to help worthy causes.

And during the pandemic, they helped scores of people. Patrick helped produce visors for frontline NHS workers, while Frances funded a charity group making masks.

Newcastle Lotto winners did DIY on their home to save cash for their children's future

A North East couple who won £1m on the lottery did DIY on their home - to save cash for their children's future.

After Darren and Kate Donaghey, from Newcastle, won £1m on a Scratchcard, one of the first things they did was buy a new house.

A personal gym, a fire feature and a stunning garden are just some of the renovations they have made over the last two years.

And, while they could have been forgiven for "splashing the cash" and leaving no expense spared on the five-bedroom detached property in Gosforth, they did a lot of the work themselves and saved around £13,000.
